At the end of day, when the brothers gather in Convocation, this is one of our common settings of the Nunc Dimittis, the Song of Simeon. In this video from a few years back, we remember some of our departed brethren. The text and music is from my setting of Mountain Vespers.

As the Presentation of Our Lord/Purification of the Theotokos is my favorite of Christ's feasts, I have many favorite canticles, but of them all, I think the Nunc Dimittis my favoritest. This is a lovely setting. Do you make it available for use anywhere? We did a Finnish setting at the seminary yesterday and closed with a setting of my own of the Prologue as the post-communion canticle, since the Nunc Dimittis had been the post-communion canticle through Epiphany, but now we ever so slightly turn Crossward.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christopher. The music is available for download as part of the BSG Noonday and Compline booklet.

Lovely, Tobias. The words of Nunc Dimittis are amongst my favorites. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI believe I caught a glimpse of Tobias the Younger in one of the earlier clips, although you look ridiculously young for your age still today.
Thank you, Mimi. Yes, I'm in one of those clips at the altar rail. Those were the days!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful setting, Tobias. Thank you for sharing it here with us. Joy and blessing on the Brothers who have gone before!
