Lord deliver us from those who claim to speak for a group solely on the basis of their membership in the group. Unless one is appointed or elected to do so, it is better to speak for oneself; perhaps even then.

What if I cry, 'Mind control!' Once your thought is planted in my mind...why almost anything could happen. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've been told, and I've found it true, that if you can't get a tune out of your head, doing a math problem there will drive it out. For other brain-weevils, I don't know what to do...
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so guilty of that!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking on behalf of a group, that is, not mind control. Not that mind control isn't very tempting sometimes, but I'm not very good at it.
As a Queer Transbutch Quarter-Jewish Pacifist Episcopalian (w/ Green Eyes and a Shorter Left Leg), I can categorically declare, We're With You!
ReplyDelete;-p
The best cure for a brain weevil is to hum the "Goat Herd" song from the sound of music in your head. It has half the shelf life of the average brain weevil.
ReplyDeleteI tried mind control, once, but that damnable Mr. Bond stopped me, once again.
ReplyDeleteThanks JCF.
ReplyDeleteKarekin, that sounds, unfortunately, like the old headache cure involving laying a lighted coal on your forearm.
Mark, I have more than enough trouble controlling my own mind to even think about controlling others'!
Don't try to control it - accept what's there. When you try to control, you deny part of what's there, and it takes its own life from that denial.
ReplyDeleteI am willing to be shunned and disliked because I know what is in me, I own it, I acknowledge, and thus, control it.
As long as a person is concerned about "being good" (which Christ said no one can be, but God), then you are ignoring what is really there - and it will come out, through indecision, cowardice, half-conscious ignorance, self-righteousness, etc. When I was a "good boy," I was one of the most horrible people I've ever known.
Mark, that was meant in jest. I agree that "control" is the problem, as Augustine said, the libido dominandi, and that goes for oneself as much as others.
ReplyDeletePart of what I'm getting at in this thought is that if everyone spoke for themselves instead of trying to second guess others or appeal to a base or placate a mob, we might have a better idea of where things actually stand. (This is a lesson Rowan has never learned.)
Yes, but I can tell you that a lot of other people feel just as I do!
ReplyDeleteDavid, true... but best not to inflate the numbers (as in the famous "Silent Majority" -- who were in fact a minority!)
ReplyDeleteBut good Father, I know that I hold the majority opinion, the Lord told me so!
ReplyDeletewv = cultsess
I know that I am not part of one of them! ;)
