Thought for 06.11.12

The argument that the physical embodiment of the sexes is morally determinative for marriage is identical in form and substance to the argument that the physical embodiment of the races is morally determinative for slavery.

My Mom, God rest her soul, believed that God intended the races to be separate. That's why He made them different.

(It's to bad she didn't live to meet my wife. She's from Jamaica.)

My counter to her assertion was that God made us differently to challange us to live together in unity.

God always wants us to go beyond our upbringing and get past our predjudices.

That certainly fits in with the traditional 'Unity in diversity' ethos of the more liberal Churches of the Anglican Communion. After all, everyone knows that 'variety is the spice of life' - and long may that continue to be so.
